Seram Coatings to attend Glasstec and Galvanizers conference
Fall is here, and what could be better in the cold and rainy season, than to snuggle up inside a conference? (Blanket optional)
We’re going to several conferences in October, including 2024 Galvanizers Annual Conference in Covington, Kentucky (https://lnkd.in/dTwWySzY ) and Glasstec in Düsseldorf, Germany (https://lnkd.in/eZPfW2y ).
What is common for both of these conferences, is ThermaSiC‘s non-stick and non-wetting properties being excellent for both industries, galvanizing and glass . We’re presenting these benefits and more, so follow our page and join us at these happenings!
In the meantime, to keep us all warm, here is a picture from ongoing demonstrations of these properties.
More to follow!

ITSC Presentation: The advantages of using a silicon carbide coating
Seram Coatings presented twice at the International Thermal Spray Conference (ITSC) in Milan, Italy.
The first presentation was on ThermaSiC and the advantages of using a silicon carbide coating, and can be viewed and downloaded here:

ThermaSiC Datasheets Updated
We have expanded and updated our technical datasheets for ThermaSiC for 2024!
Both the HVOF and APS version can be downloaded here: https://www.seramcoatings.com/products/

Sample preparation of ThermaSiC
Read below to download our sample preparation recommendations:
When preparing ceramic coatings for microstructure, hardness and porosity analysis, it is important to minimize defects, contaminations and pull-outs.
One way to do this is to follow our sample preparation recommendations, which can be downloaded here
The recommendations include cutting, mounting and polishing recommendations, using Struers Accutom, EpoFix and diamond pads, and is suitable for HVOF and APS coatings with ThermaSiC alike.

Hardfacing aluminum and titanium
ThermaSiC can be coated on aluminum and titanium surfaces to increase surface properties of both materials, also known as hardfacing.
While the two are both lightweight metals, their applications are certainly different. Aluminum with its thermal and electrical conductivity, and excellent strength-to-weight ratio when alloyed and hardened, while titanium is harder, tougher, more heat resistant and chemically reistant.
Whichever you would consider for your application, know that ThermaSiC is able to be applied to both, giving increased wear-, temperature- and corrosion resistance. Ceramic hardfacing is a way to increase the surface properties of both.

Seram Coatings will present at A3TS – Thermal Spraying Days
On the 6th and 7th of December, Seram Coatings Founder
Professor Nuria Espallargas from NTNU will present at
A3TS – Thermal spraying days.
The conference will take place at the esteemed Palais Beaumont in Pau, France, and brings together people from academia, industry and all parts of thermal spraying society for sharing new developments, networking and friendly exchange of knowledge.
The presentation is titled “The tribological performance in a water-based lubricant of SiC-YAG composite HVOF coatings“, with an excerpt of the abstract below:

“A new coating-seal solution in a water-based lubricant for the oil-to-sea interfaces has been tested. This new solution consists of optimized surfaces (SiC-YAG coatings) in contact with polymeric seals.
Six different seal materials and four different surfaces have been tested for frictional and wear performance in a water-based lubricant formulated for a thruster application. The sealing materials were two rubbers, polyurethane, UHMWPE, polyketone and a thermoset composite. The counter surfaces were: hardened steel as the reference, WC-CoCr coating, Cr3C2-NiCr coating and SiC-YAG composite coating (ThermaSiC).”
“ThermaSiC showed the lowest friction values.”
“For harder seals, the friction was lower and ThermaSiC showed values close to superlubricity.
The main mechanisms behind these differences are discussed in this work.”

Protecting your production equipment from molten aluminum
Is molten aluminum sticking to your production equipment?
Here’s what to do with it:
#ThermaSiC silicon carbide coating exhibits excellent non-stick behaviour towards molten aluminum, as shown in this video. It also protects againts corrosion and wear in molten #aluminum applications, such as #aluminizing and aluminum primary #metal production.

Molten Zinc Rolls Off ThermaSiC
To all who work in #galvanizing or otherwise with molten #zinc :
We’ve got you covered!
Wouldn’t it be nice if your equipment was coated with a non-stick ceramic coating, and any molten zinc would just roll off after use? Not to mention the extended lifetime from extra #corrosion and #wear resistance?
In the video, a molten zinc droplet rolls off as-sprayed HVOF #ThermaSiC. Even in slow motion one can see how easily the zinc slides off, leaving no residue or traces behind. Even solidified zinc can be easily scraped off after cooling down.

To demonstrate the non-wetting properties of #ThermaSiC towards molten aluminium and zinc, our Senior Development Engineer Bernardo Santos held the attached presentation at this years International Thermal Spray Conference ITSC. This can now be downloaded and especially slide 6 shows these properties well.
